The Medals
Today in Rome Franco Frattini, Italian Foreign Minister, unveiled the official medals for the 13th FINA World Championships, in the presence of Gianni Letta, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council of Ministers, Rocco Crimi, Undersecretary to the Presidency of the Council with Proxy to the Sports, Gianni Alemanno, Major of Rome, and Paolo Barelli, President of the Italian Federation of Swimming. Presentation took place in Villa Madama for the representatives of the Diplomatic Corps accredited at the Quirinale.
The medals, coined by the Polygraph Institute of State and designed by Patrizio Daniele, are made of a bronze alloy with a weight of 230 grams and a diameter of 80 millimeters. One side is common to all the five aquatic disciplines: it includes the Roma09 logo on a graphic representation of a pool. The Coliseum appears below and on the left there is a laurel branch. On the other side there are the five aquatic disciplines: Swimming, Synchronized Swimming, Open Water Swimming, Diving and Water Polo. During the 13th FINA World Championships 188 medals will be delivered for each single metal for a total of 564 medals. The former champions to wear the medals as Roma09 testimonial were: Paola Celli, Klaus Dibiasi, Domenico Fioravanti, Francesco Postiglione and Viola Valli.
