Beating Kai Qin and Feng Wang is mission impossible from four years. The Chinese duet from the 3m Springboard goes on collecting gold medals gold medals from Montreal World Championships: it was in 2005, and since that year they haven’t stopped. In Melbourne and Beijing they didn’t give chances to their rivals. Snatching the “Coliseum” medal out of their necks is a hard job, but someone must look after it.
Surely Russians and Canadians have thought it over. The champions Dmitriy Sautin and Alexandre Despatie don’t want to let unopposed the Chinese rule in the synchronised springboard. The Russian couple Sautin-Kunakov is back from the silver medal at the Beijing Olympics, while the Canadian one obtained the same metal at Melbourne FINA World Championships. The battle is guaranteed.
Marconi brothers are there in ambush. In Australia Tommaso and Nicola got the fifth position from the 3m Springboard: this time the goal is to reach the podium.
Today the schedule shows the 10m women’s Platform semifinals and final and the 3m men’s Synchronised Springboard preliminary rounds. Olympic champion Roulin Chen will try to not let the gold medal slip.
Also the Synchronised Swimming competitions start, after the Diving ones. The Team Technical starts off the preliminary round. The event is scheduled at 11 a.m. at the Synchronised Swimming Stadium. The national teams in competition are 17. The United States, which got the fifth position at the Melbourne World Championships and at the Beijing Olympics, will be the first to enter the pool. Russia will be the 16th team to exhibit: it’s the favorite team. Russian synchronettes won the gold medal both in Beijing and in Melbourne. Spain and China will look for their revenge against the eternal rivals from Moscow. Italy will try to get into the first positions even if the undertaking seems to be hard.
