Russia wins in the Duet Free, too
Ishchenko and Romashina, the Synchro Czarinas, win another gold medal, the Duet Free one, with a very high score, 98.883. The Final confirmed the paging Olympics ranking: once again, Spanish Fuentes and Mengual (98.333) have to bow to the Russian rule. Third place for Chinese twin Jiang (97.000). Canada can’t reach the podium with Boudreau-Gagnon and Isaac, preceding Italian duet Adelizzi and Lapi for a few points.
Svetlana Romashina (RUS) – Gold medal
«We are very happy to have secured the gold medal. We wanted to distinguish ourselves from the other swimmers. Our performance was perfect, our coreography was easy and full of details. We have been training for eight months. We didn't select this kind of music for a particular reason. We just wanted to add a new style to our performance».
Gemma Mengual (ESP) – Silver medal
«Compared to yesterday's performance we corrected a few things and this was appreciated. I believe this time we have been evaluated correctly and the final score reflects the level of our performance. For the Team Free Routine Final Ana (Tarres, Spain's coach) prepared a beautiful coreography based on the theme 'La casa encantada' (The enchanted house) which I believe the crowd will love».
Wenwen Jiang (CHN)- Bronze Medal
«We did not expect to get the chance to clinch a medal today. We felt a bit exhausted compared to yesterday's preliminaries. In the morning we are more tired than in the afternoon. Anyway we performed much better compared to the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games and we were more relaxed too. Our hard work paid off. There are figures that only we, as twins, are able to perform. This is also because our legs are equally long».
