Silver Cagnotto and Dallapé, but the Chinese come from a different planet
The aliens don’t want give way to terrestrials. Jingjing Guo and Minxia Wu confirm themselves at the top of the discipline and, in the 3m Springboard Synchro Final, they win the only medal they deserve. The Asian duet collects 348.00 points, obtaining the umpteenth victory and throwing China up to the 18th medal. Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallapé win the “human tournament” getting the silver medal with the score of 329.70. The third silver medal in Italian diving history (the other two were conquered by Klaus Dibiasi) comes at the end of an exciting session: Cagnotto and Dallapè overcome high-level couples such as Russian Pakhalina-Podzniakova (bronze medal with 310.80 points) and Australian Cole-Stratton (fifth position).
Tania CAGNOTTO (ITA) - silver
"I started badly. I didn't see my dives (on TV), but I know we gave our best."
"It is much more exciting to share a medal with her. And this time it is a silver. Winning silver is awesome."
Francesca DALLAPE' (ITA) - silver
"I still can't understand what we did. It is like competing in a Grand Prix (competition which takes place every year in Rome) but it is a silver medal at the World Championships. To be on the podium is something I would have never expected in my entire life."
"My problem was the 2 1/2 backward dive. Tania told me: Fra' (abbreviation for Francesca), take it easy. This way she gave me confidence, I went for it and I made it."
Jingjing GUO (CHN) - gold
"We had a great performance. We get on very well. If we have the chance, we will keep diving together. The longer you work together, the more you improve as a couple."
"My memory of these world championships will be the heat and the hot sun."
"I have never said I was going to retire after the Beijing 2008 Olympic Games. I just wanted to take a break and to rest for a little while."
Minxia WU (CHN) - gold
"I felt very nervous before this final. But I dived well in the end."
"Tania Cagnotto and Francesca Dallapè are very strong. I think they will become dangerous opponents for us."
Julia PAKHALINA (RUS) - bronze
"We performed well. At the end of the third round of dives we were second, then we lost synchronisation in our fourth dive. It wasn't one of our best day."
"We made everything we could. I am happy anyway because I received a letter from the Russian President (MEDVEDEV, President of the Russian Federation) who congratulated me for the gold medal I won in the 1m Springboard event."
Anastasia POZDNIAKOVA (RUS) - bronze
"What went wrong at the fourth dive? I slipped."
