In the morning, Roma09 breathes again.
In the morning, Roma09 breathes again. While the hot sun keeps on relentlessly hitting everyone’s heads (athletes, crowd, journalists and friends), the few World records still alive are waiting this afternoon to see their numbers erased. The swimmers who are already sure of their finals walk and check their opponents till one o’clock. Later, as the afternoon walks in and the medals are about to be awarded, things will surely change.
There is no wonder in seeing Phelps finishes 2nd in the 200m Butterfly heats behind Korzeniowski; or Pellegrini enters the semifinals with the sixth time. Oussama Mellouli (TUN) is the only exception of the heats: after being defeated by Biedermann in the 400m, he sets the best time in the 800m Freestyle while Federico Colbertaldo (ITA) in the same race crashes the previous European record with the time of 7:44.29.
Now it’s time for a few rest, then even the water will turn hot again. The Men’s 200m Freestyle challenge between Phelps and Biedermann; Women’s 100m Backstroke final will see the clash between Zueva, Spofforth and Coventry; finally the Women’s 100m Breaststroke where Rebecca Soni will challenge herself.
