Phelps is the “Shark” again
Two wonderful challenges for two beautiful competitions. Cielo defeats Bousquet in the 50m Freestyle and Michael Phelps overcomes Serbian Cavic with rage.
The nip and tuck between Bousquet and Cielo was really exciting. The Brazilian got the better of the French in the last strokes, repeating the success in the 100m Freestyle over another French athlete, Bernard.
The challenge between Cavic and Phelps was as much beautiful as the previous one. The American was the author of an impressive performance, overall in the latest 50 meters which allowed him to surpass the Serbian swimmer just for 13 hundredths of a second and to set the new World record (49.82). Phelps is Phelps again.
In the first Final of the afternoon Australian Guehrer achieved the gold medal preceding Zhou and Snildal.
In the Women’s 200m Backstroke the Roman crowd saw Kirsty Coventry’s solo: she ruled the whole race setting the new World record and preceding Russian Zueva and American Beisel.
800 golden meters for Lotte Friis, who fought with Alessia Filippi for the first place. In the last lap, the Roman swimmer surrendered to British Jackson, who got the silver medal.
The last Final of the day was the Women’s 4x100 Medley relay, which showed China triumphing over Australia and Germany.
In the Women’s 50m Breaststroke semifinal, Australian Sarah led the group which will set on fire the tomorrow’s final. Dutch Nijhius and Russian Efimova placed themselves after her. Australian Campbell ruled the Women’s 50m Freestyle semifinals preceding Veldhius and Steffen. In the last qualification heats, the Men’s 50m Backstroke, Liam Tancock set the new World record (24.08) preceding Junga Toga and Camille Lacourt.
