Phelps: “I am here to visit the monuments”
“I am here to visit the monuments”. That is the way Michael Phepls introduces himself to the Rome 2009 World Championships. The USA champion, who won eight gold medals at 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, setting a new world record, is the most desired swimmer in these competitons at the Foro Italico. Phelps will start swimming on Sunday the first of his six races, i.e. 3 relays and 3 individual races. Compared to the Olympic Games, the schedule of the champion from Baltimore is lighter. Phelps will find time for sightseeing with his mom Debbie. “I had never been in Rome before, that’s the reason why I came here”, said Michael with a joke.
