Jingjing Guo confirms herself as the number one. Tania Cagnotto gets the bronze
Things always come in three’s. In the home pool Tania Cagnotto respects the old saying and she gets the third consecutive bronze medal at the World Championships after the Montreal and Melbourne ones. In the women’s 3m Springboard the “extra-terrestrial” Jingjing Guo plays another sport (Chinese star finishes with 388.20 points) winning the World title number nine in her incomparable carreer; the athlete from Bolzano gives to Italy the first medal in these Championships. Tania Cagnotto concludes her performances with the score of 341.25, just five points less than Canadian Emilie Heymans, the real final surprise, who conquers a remarkable silver medal. The other Asian He Zi disappoints the expectations, getting the fourth place in the ranking, after Cagnotto. The “azzurra” diver will go back to the Springboard on July 23 for the women’s 3m synchronised together with Francesca Dallapè.

Tania CAGNOTTO (ITA) - bronze
"Finally a medal! I have been sick for the last three days. I couldn't stand it any longer. I have been dreaming this bronze for a long time."
"What a crowd! I was very nervous, but it was awesome, an unforgettable emotion. Diving in front of all my friends was the best thing that could happen to me. I felt like crying before and after the competition and I really needed to release my stress."
"Neither the others nor I had an excellent competition. Since Pakhalina gave up to compete in this event, competitions are of lower quality. The podium is always with two Chinese and one Russian diver. Now one place is free and we all feel very nervous to fill it up."
"Both Guo and He weren't perfect. He surprised me a lot. I wasn't perfect too, but I achieved my goal.."
"Heymans emerged as a big surprise. Hadn't she performed so well, I could have secured even the silver. However I am more scared of the Chinese (divers)."
"I want to dedicate this bronze medal to my family and all my friends who made such a long trip to come and see me."

Jingjing Guo (CHN) - gold
"I performed well, I'm quite satisfied. However, there are still many things I could improve. You should get better at every training session."
"During the final I was nervous before each dive as usual. Compared to the past though, I am able to control my nerves better."
"It is still hard to say whether I will compete at the London 2012 Olympic Games. I will try. As for the 2011 FINA World Championships in Shangai, I don' know either. Don't put too much pressure on me please. I just want to rest now."

Emilie Heymans (CAN) - silver
"I couldn't be happier, I am really surprised. I worked really hard but I haven't been competing for a while so I didn't know my current conditions compared to the other divers."
"I thought it was going to take me more time to win a silver medal in a World Championships. I will be at the London 2012 Olympic Games, but I still have time to think about it. Right now I just want to enjoy this moment."
