Gold medal to Russian Julia Pakhalina in the women's 1m Springboard
Gold medal for Russian Julia Pakhalina, who rules the women's 1m Springboard with 325.05 points. Technical skill, style and precision for the 32-years-old from Penza, who outdistances Chinese Wu Minxia and Han Wang without any fault with the exception of the second dive. Third and fifth dives (both 70.20) were decisive for her triumph. Fourth position for Italian Tania Cagnotto who, in spite of an excellent performance in the two latest dives, cannot reach the podium, stopping at 3.70 points from the Chinese.
Fifth place for Australian Sharleene Stratton, before Italian Maria Elisabetta Marconi who completed her competition with the score of 268.80.
Julia Pakhalina (RUS), Gold medal
"I am very happy, I was really really good. I am also glad to win another gold medal even if in my career I have already collected many others. I was only focused on my program. Tania (CAGNOTTO, ITA) was very good and competitive today but I expect from her a brilliant performance in the 3m Springboard event. I feel great now. I surely could perform a little better some of my dives, but I am satisfied."
Mingxia Wu (CHN), Silver medal
"I'm very satisfied with this result. I dived well today and I think the silver medal corresponds to my level. Today Pakhalina RUS) performed extremely well, both in the preliminaries and in the final. She has always been very strong and this result is not surprising at all. Compared to us (Chinese divers), I think the entry in the water is one of her strengths".
Han Wang (CHN), Bronze medal
"It is the first time for me to be in a World Championships. I did very well, I showed my level. I'm very satisfied for this bronze medal. When I was diving, I was not thinking about it. I did not care about the final results because I was really focused on my dives. Pakhalina (RUS) is older than us chinese divers. She is more experienced and I think she is stronger than me also from a technical point of view."
