Natalia Ishchenko, Queen of Synchro. Historic medal for Italy
Once again Russia, once again Natalia Ishcenko on the highest step of the podium for the Free Solo final. Russia has outperfomed with a little advantage the Iberian silver medal Gemma Menguel. Historical third place for the Italian Beatrice Adelizzi. A great achievement by the the Italian athlelte who ranked before the Canadian Chloé Isaac and the Japanese Yumi Adachi in the technical evaluation.
The performances of the three medal winners were accompanied by
wonderful musics: Tchaikowsky's "Swan Lake" for the Russian, "Yesterday" sung by Ray Charles for the Spanish and Domingo's voice singing Puccini's "Lucean Le Stelle" for the Italian.
Natalia Ishchenko (RUS) – Gold medal
«I am very happy for my performance. Only at the end of my excercise I realised I won the gold medal. My performance was perfect and this is the result of a lot of training and commitment».
Gemma Mengual (ESP) – Silver medal
«Today I was more confident than yesterday and I felt the crowd was supporting me a lot. The problem is still how the judges evaluate our performances. My strength is the artistic impression, and I can't understand how this was evaluated of lower quality than the technical merit. I hope one day judges understand that people expect fair and accurate judgements from them».
Beatrice Adelizzi (ITA) - Bronze medal
«I can't still believe I won this medal. This is Italy's first medal in the Solo Free Routine. At these world championships I really gave all I had. I would like to thank the crowd for their warm support. It's unbelievable thinking that in 2006 I placed fifth at the European Championships in Budapest, and now I am the third in the world».
