Alessia Filippi wins in her own city
She preannounced it after the heats: “I only have got a goal, the gold medal”. No sooner said than done. In her city, in front of her supporters. Alessia Filippi achieves a golden exploit, winning the hardest and longest race: the 1500m Freestyle. Thirty laps which seemed to be endless, overall for the crowd on the stands and at their own homes. After a hard beginning, Alessia Filippi decided it was the moment to be serious: she changed of pace, she left Camelia Potec and Lotte Friis behind her and she went to take her gold medal: wanted and deserved. “I dedicate this triumph to myself, my family, my coach and a person who helped me very much in this period”, she said at the end of the race. In the final 100m, all standing in the whole Swimming Stadium to incite and applause their favorite’s victory. Maybe, she realized what she did only when she stepped on the podium. An exploit which could be replied on Saturday in the 800m Freestyle. But Saturday’s still far away. Now it’s time to celebrate a wanted, preannounced and deserved gold medal.
