The Institute of Sport Medicine and Sport Science "Antonio Venerando" is the medical and scientific structure of the Italian National Olympic Committee (CONI), which has the institutional task of taking care of elite athletes' health and to provide scientific knowledge to the National Sport Federations in order to study and improve the overall sport performance, in regards to Olympic and high level competitions.
During the 13th FINA World Championship Roma 09, the Institute will carry out a research concerning the competition analysis for every semi-final and final within the swimming events, by using an integrated multichannel video recording system, consisting of fixed cameras (Sony and Panasonic) synchronized with each other and with the official timing acquired from the chrono system (Omega).
The video analysis will be made, with the technical cooperation of FIN, by using DartFish 5.0 software and will provide data on lap time, average swimming speed, stroke frequency and stroke length for each swimmer's race. The analysis charts of finals will be published on the next day on the following website. The analysis of semi-finals will be available on the website from next September. The hardware and software integrated system has been developed in cooperation with Playground S.r.l.
