'The Foro Italico Complex is the natural venue for the Championships'
At the end of a Roma09 briefing, due to prepare the following dead lines with FINA, the President of the Organizing Committee Mr. Giovanni Malagò took the chance to make some considerations regarding the contentious, especially the recent ones, made on regard of the infrastructures for the event. “We are “just” the organizers of the event and not the builders of the sites where this event will take place, says the President Malagò, but what is happening around the Foro Italico Venue and its restructuring, also if it doesn’t regard us directly, involves us as first direct spectators. It is not our problem and we do not have the right to approach in sport buildings, in covered and non infrastructures and Tennis Stadium matters. Roma09 needs only to position two temporary swimming pools, one inside the old Central Tennis Stadium the other in the “Pallacorda Stadium” (Nicola Pietrangeli) and to rise the relative temporary tribunes. The Foro Italico Complex is the ideal and natural site for the Championships and from the beginning wanted by the International Swimming Federation. I wish that the passed discussions will have an end and that, as the Organizing Committee is already doing, to pass quickly to an executive phase. I hope that the same solution will arrive soon, also for the Ostia Lido, Venue for the Open Water Swimming. In the name of the city, of a Great Event to organize and for sport in general, I’m sure that a definitive solution that considers the different necessities, will be found”.
