The Awarding of the Championships

The 2009 World Championships of the Aquatic Disciplines (13th edition) will be held in Rome. This was announced by the President of FINA Mustapha Larfaoui on the 16th of July 2005, during the Montreal World Championships. The Capital was awarded the Championships overcoming its competitors Dubai, Moscow, Athens and Yokohama.
"We - commented the President of the FIN Sen. Paolo Barelli - bet not only on the solidity of our organization and the validity of our infrastructures but on many different aspects."
"Rome's charm beats any competitor", the Mayor of Rome On. Walter Veltroni enthusiastically declared: "I am simply proud that we, who live in and love this city, have succeeded in conquering FINA's trust. I can assure that the Capital will not hold back, investing all of its energy in carrying out all the necessary interventions in order to reach our set objectives".
The President of the Candidacy Campaign Committee, Dr. Giovanni Malagò, illustrated the project: "The event will only be successful if we build it day by day. The Championship will bequeath its trace, not only agonistically but also in terms of structures."
