Magnini prepares for Roma09
On the occasion of the presentation of the contest “Challenge the swimmer” organized by Speedo, Filippo Magnini, twice world champion in the 100 m freestyle, talked about his aims for the next FINA World Championships. “Olympics didn’t go well, and Rome will be a very good chance to get even. I must defend my world title in the 100 m, but I’ll also prepare the 200 m freestyle and the 50 m breaststroke. In the latter speciality, my goal will be to have fun, because I have got less expectations but I always aim to a good result. The World Championships take place in the city I live in, I’d like to take part in a lot of races, among which the relays (the 4x100 m’s and the 4x200 m’s ones, where we have many chances to get the podium). I’m convinced I’m still the only opponent for myself: head is the fundamental element for the victory. If it’s true that new swim-suits help to take down the records, at the base there is still the athlete, with his skill, his value and his desire to win. If I’ll be in top shape, I’ll have my chances with every athlete, including the French swimmers who are the great favourites. Many athletes are swimming speedly, with times around 47 seconds: these are results I’ve got in my arms, that I already realized in training, so I think I’m not inferior than my rivals”.
