FIN - Italian Swimming Federation

"The designation of Rome as host of the 13th edition of the FINA World Championships rewards the commitment and results attained by an organizational structure which exalts diffused associationism.
160.000 registered members, over a million affiliates from federal schools, five million swimmers give an idea of the significance of the ever growing Italian swimming movement, which efficiently caters both for the needs of a vast public and for the specificities of agonistic sport.
All conditions are met to ensure that the 2009 FINA World Championships constitute not only a grand celebration of sport, but also provide extraordinary exposure for swimming and other aquatic disciplines, a unique occasion to furnish ourselves with technological infrastructures able to sustain the qualitative and quantitative growth of our movement.
We await you in Rome with the conviction of realizing a unique event which shall rediscover the intense emotions of the 1994 World Championships."

Paolo Barelli - President of the Italian Swimming Federation

The Italian Swimming Federation (FIN) has the aim of promoting, organizing and supervising aquatic sports disciplines in Italy. The disciplines administered by the FIN are: swimming, open water swimming, diving, water polo and synchronized swimming and lifesaving swimming. Established in 1899 under the name of Rari Nantes Italian Federation, the FIN became a member of CONI - the Italian National Olympic Committee - in 1928. The more than 1,200 associations affiliated to FIN constitute the democratic basis of the Elective Assembly of the Federation. This latter elects the President, the Federal Council and the Auditors' Board. Recent data show that about 5,000,000 Italians practice sports activities linked to FIN.
