The mexican Espinosa is the astonishing winner of the 10m platform competition
During the Rome 09 World Championships (17th July-2nd August) at the Foro Italico Complex, the Mexican Paola Espinosa stunned everybody on the 10m platform by defeating the Chinese Chen Ruolin, gold Olympic medallist in Beijing, and Kang Li. Espinosa astonishingly won with 428,25 points, before the favourite and silver medallist Ruolin (417,60) and the bronze medallist Li (410,35).
During the morning, Espinosa placed third in the semi-final, right behind Li and the Australian Melissa Wu. A perfect competition for this 23-year-old Mexican that literally stole the gold medal from the super-favourites, thanks to her top score (10) in the third dive. Instead, the Australian was deceiving: after doing a great job in the morning, she got the fourth dive wrong during the final.
There were no Italians on the podium: Brenda Spaziani and Noemi Batki were eliminated yesterday during the preliminaries and they did not classified for the semi-finals. The two Azzurre respectively ranked 21st and 25th.
